DON
BAKER
THURSDAY
MAY 6
THE JOHN HEWITT 8.00PM
Don Baker was hospitalised with TB at the age of 7 where he
first picked up a harmonica.
Frequently in trouble with the police, Ber was in and out
of prison until the age of 19. In prison, he took up the guitar
and in his own words ‘never looked back’
Immersing himself in the blues of his heroes such as Sonny
Boy Williamson and Sonny Terry and the guitar playing of the
great country blues players Mississippi John Hurt and Robert
Johnson, Baker took to the road, travelling throughout Europe,
playing all the while.
10 years were spent on the road struggling and finally conquering
an alcohol addiction. Many rate this man as the greatest acoustic
harmonica player in the world, not least some bloke called
Bono.
After a memorable role in the film ‘In the Name of the
Father’, Baker is increasingly also known as a commanding
actor. Miss this one at your peril.
