Take one
post-punk legend, ask him to collaborate with former local
Indie heroes gathered from the ashes of the fondly remembered
St.Vitus Dance and what emerges promises to enthral, entertain
and quite possibly, implode in chaos.
The Unreal Scarlet’s Well are the the musical incarnation
of Bid, the enigmatic, quietly legendary London singer-songwriter
and former front man of cult NewWave dandies The Monochrome
Set.
Bid’s Scarlet’sWell collaborators have included living modern
rock star Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand and dead Victorian
poet Christina Rossetti, constantly in church services with
the hymn In The Bleak Midwinter. All of which is very Scarlet’s
Well.
The music, meanwhile, is a gorgeous, intoxicating form of
defiantly non-rocking, timeless and folkish fop-pop. Stunning,
ornately-crafted melodies arranged for accordions, mandolins,
brushed drums, smoky pianos, banjos, fiddles, ukuleles, and
bouzoukis.
Alongside Monochrome Set classics, this new music will be
recreated by Brendy Duffin, Kevin O’Neill, Pete Hesketh, Phil
Frackleton, Davy McKernan, Noel Burke and Hayden Boyle.
