  BJ COLE

Sunday May 8 | The John Hewitt | 9.00pm

Think Pedal Steel Guitar and you automatically think Country music . BJ Cole, however, has never made a record that Nashville would consider ‘country’. Instead, in a 30 year career he has taken his instrument beyond its rural homeland and far into the technological outer reaches of subversive pop. Just some of the names Cole has played with include Scott Walker, Beck, Bjork, Marc Bolan, Emmylou Harris and most recently a live partnership with ambient turntablist Luke Vibert. In Cole’s hands the guitar twists and vibrates through hip hop, drum ‘n’ bass and whirling electronica. Then there’s the widescreen psychedelic colours of latest album, Trouble in Paradise featuring collaborations with Groove Armada, Alabama 3, Kent and Luke Vibert.
