  THE BLIND BOYS OF ALABAMA

Sunday May 1 | The Waterfront Hall | 8.00pm

The Blind Boys of Alabama are, in the words of the great Solomon Burke, “the hottest, workin’, movin’, groovin’, jumpin’, singin’, shoutin’ gospel quartet in America … I’d say the world! ”And Burke’s not alone in his respect for the Grammy-winning ensemble, founded by Clarence Fountain at the Alabama Institute for the Negro Blind way back in 1939. Along with Burke, the Blind Boys’ albums have featured guest appearances by such notable fans as Tom Waits, Chrissie Hynde, Richard Thompson, Mavis Staples, Aaron Neville, and George Clinton. The group’s enduring appeal has as much to do with the Blind Boys’ incomparable rich vocal harmonies as their ability to mix the sacred with the profane, as evidenced by both their gospel readings of contemporary pop and soul classics and their particularly bold and thrilling fusion of Amazing Grace and House of the Rising Sun.

Tickets £23.50/£19.50/£15.00 available from the Waterfront Hall on 028 90334455
