Although most of the British and Irish volunteers who went to Spain in 1936 were jobless, working men, it has become known, in Stephen Spender’s phrase, as ‘the Poet’s War’, a time when the ideological ideals of the thirties generation was tested against the merciless brutality of a war situation.
This night brings together some of Belfast’s finest writers and musician to evoke the words and music of the era, both poignant and rousing to a background of striking visual imagery. Hosted by Prof. David Johnston
