Papa ‘Nono’ Noel, legendary
guitar maestro from the great days of
Congolese rumba, and Adan Pedroso, young
aspiring Cuban troubador, met up for
the first time in June 2000. A few weeks
later they were performing on stage
together at Womad’s Rivermead Festival
in the UK, . Having played with many
of the famous and significant names
of the soukous musical tradition throughout
the 50s, 60s and 70s Papa Noel has earnt
great admiration and respect for his
unique virtuoso style while the young
talented Adan Pedroso, a follower of
la Nueva Trova movement has gained considerable
success as lead composer of rising Cuban
band Asere. Nono and Adan share the
same birthday, albeit a few decades
apart, and a fine synchronicity fires
this duo into a sweet groove.
