Louis de Berniéres was born in London in 1954. In 1993 he was selected as one of the 20 Best of Young British Novelists and, the following year, his fourth novel Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, was shortlisted for the Sunday Express Book of the Year. This novel has been translated into 18 languages and the film is due for general release on May 11.

In 1995, de Bernieres was awarded the Lannan Literary Award for fiction, which is given to a number of authors every year to recognise writers of fiction, poetry and non-fiction whose work is of exceptional quality. Louis will read a selection of his work, including new prose fiction and talk about his writing life.

‘de Bernieres launches us on an epic love story that is positively Odyssean in terms of honour and virtue…a vivid and ambitious canvas’. Time Out on Captain Corelli’s Mandolin
