The John Hewitt 8.00pm
Diminutive as he is in person, SEYDINA WADE is a monument
of modern Senegalese music, a song writer whose texts
and melodies have influenced all of his country`s major
artists, not least Youssu N`Dour, Baaba Maal, Ismael Lo,
Les Freres Guisses, Pape and Cheikh and more recently
a new generation of rappers including his own grandson
El Hadji Man of the group Daara Ji. His songs reflect
the melodies of the entire West African region and historical
social issues but at the same time are charming portraits
of Senegalese life and Senegalese people, sung with humour
and style. Oumar Sow, a regular visitor to Ireland and
described by Seydina as his little brother
completes the duo for a one-off special evening of great
West African guitar, on this the first day of CQAF 2003.
