Gare St Lazare return to the Festival to present Swallow by acclaimed Irish playwright Michael Harding. Harding plays Cyril McAloon, a Protestant farmer from Monaghan, attempting to make sense of the events that have just befallen him.

One night, hearing his adored brother call his name from the icy deathtrap of a frozen lake, Cyril McAloon made the bleakest of decisions, and his life ever since has been gnarled by guilt and regret.

Harding’s realisation of the embittered McAloon is riveting and incisive, difficult emotions permeating his every move and utterance as the rain saturates his useless Co. Cavan fields. A stunning potrait of a man deeply, irredeemably alone.

"For once, the Irish monologue is a warranted form." Belinda McKeown, The Irish Times.

In this Edinburgh smash, disabled comedian Laurence Clark takes an irreverent look at the multi-million pound disability charity industry, asking who the f**k needs Esther Rantzen or Jimmy Saville anyway.

Questioning if equality can ever be achieved through charity, after this, you might never put coins into rattling tins again!

Stand-up routines around the somewhat ‘taboo’ subject of disability charities are interspersed with video footage and appeals on behalf of various celebrities.

“Perhaps the celebrities, who we see on TV asking for donations are the needy cases, people whose careers are on the slide and who turn to collecting money for charity to raise their profiles…”

BSL interpretation and Speech to Text provided.
