Shappi Khorsandi
Shappi entered the BBC New Comedy Awards 2000 as a dare and
ended up in the final. She has since made a splash, not just
only on the UK circuit but also Holland, Scandinavia, Iran
and the USA.
Born in Tehran and raised in London, Khorsandi has a distinct,
sassy and sharp act, which can muse on everything from the
Ayatollah Khomeini, Thatcher, some kebabs, fish & chips,
a camel and a mini metro.

Ria Lina
Winner of the EMMA Best Comedian Award 2003, Ria Lina has
already made a huge impact with her dry wit and her ukulele.
Mixing observations with a hilarious song repetoire she covers
everyday topics such as mail-order brides, small breasts,
and ping-pong balls.
Ria Lina trained as an actress, singer and dancer and alongside
her burgeoning stand – up career she recently finished
filming a documentary for Channel 4 that uncovers the myth
surrounding oriental women in today’s society.

As well as the coveted Comedy Trophy, the prize includes the
chance to enter the Manchester showcase of the Funny Women
Comedy Awards, which aim to seek out and promote new female
comedy talent.
The proud winner will also receive one night’s accommodation
and return flights from Belfast to Manchester on Monday 14th
June and could end up competing with the national finalists
at the Comedy Store in London.
