The Special Consensus bluegrass band began touring around
Illinois in the spring of 1975. So, 2010 marks the 35th year this band
has been bringing the magic of bluegrass to the masses.
At the center of Special Consensus is Greg Cahill and his banjo - his
rhythm really grounds every song without overpowering it. Greg is
now the President of the International Bluegrass Music Association,
which seems appropriate given his long career and ability to bring
such diverse bluegrass styles together in his band.
The Special Consensus repertoire includes traditional bluegrass
standards (songs by Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, etc.) and songs
by artists from other musical genres (such as Blue Skies by Irving
Berlin). As a result of this musical diversity, Special Consensus has
performed at the most traditional bluegrass festivals and has also
been the band to bridge the gap between traditional and progressive
bands at more diverse festivals and fairs.
To sum up: if you’ve liked what Special Consensus has been doing
since 1975, you’ll like what they’re doing in 2010. And because this
is music made by the President of Bluegrass, we say: Hail to the
Chief!
