Carolyn Jess is a 24 year old PhD student currently researching and teaching at Queen’s University. Her first exhibition, ‘Inroads’, is a collection of photographs and poems inspired by her worldwide adventures. The exhibition aims to contemplate physical, geographical, and emotional boundaries whilst seeking to examine the spiritual and aesthetic trajectories of childhood, love, and destiny. Upon graduation in 2004 Carolyn intends to publish ‘Inroads’ as a book, shoot her first feature film, and stage her musical ‘Forever’ in Belfast.

A native of the mountains of East Germany the artist Volker Mehner has an interest in mythology. Some works are based on long term intensive studies of medieval paintings and on literature. Some are dedicated to poet Seamus Heaney whose essays bear witness to his commitment to the autonomy of art. Writing poetry for him is digging with his pen, which explains one poem’s title. Mehner with his woodcuts and paintings is digging in his way. The artist, born in 1953, lives in Berlin.

Gerry Gleason was born in Belfast and has exhibited his work widely throughout Europe and America in various mediums; painting, drawing and installations. His work is held in public and private collections including Buchenwald Concentration Camp Museum.
This exhibition is a microcosm of the concerns Gerry has dealt with over the years. ‘Small spaces are as great a challenge as the large spaces. To retain the working environment but enhance it with art.’
Exhibition Launch Wednesday April 30 6.00pm featuring Acoustic Blues with Rab McCullough
