OUT TO LUNCH ARTS FESTIVAL 6 -31 JANUARY 2010 / CATHEDRAL QUARTER

Elvis McGonagall
Elvis McGonagall + Mark Madden
Saturday January 16
The Black Box, 3.00pm

Stand-up poet, armchair revolutionary and recumbent rocker, Elvis McGonagall is the sole resident of The Graceland Caravan Park somewhere in the middle of nowhere where he scribbles verse whilst drinking scotch, listening to Johnny Cash and throwing heavy objects at his portable telly.

Elvis is the 2006 World Slam Champion, the compere of the notorious Blue Suede Sporran Club and appears regularly on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live and occasionally on the Today Programme.

Politicians. Celebrities. Jeremy Clarkson. All these things make Elvis angry. Very angry. Fast, funny and furious - “….if poetry is the new rock ‘n roll then Elvis….is Elvis”.

Fresh from the Radio 4 Slam finals, Mark Madden has been a stalwart of the Belfast performance scene since he ran the seminal Arcadia Coffeehouse. A wordsmith of rare power.
