  Cheap Date 3
Featuring Panda Kopanda, 3 Tales, Desert Hearts, Kowalski followed by screening and live performance of The Call of Cthulhu
  The Black Box
Saturday 5 May, 7.30pm

The Letting Go EP (2005) introduced Panda Kopanda to the world. NME described the work as 'a bruised and heartfelt twist on indie music'. Their second DIY offering The Ocean of Fire EP (2006 Cableattack!!), sees them develop their sound with five brutally sincere, wonderfully catchy examples of angular indie pop and a future as yet untitled album is anticipated.

3 Tales wander happily between extremes of loud and quiet. This intelligent Belfast indie rock trio use the intimacy of the guitar/bass/drums format to create subtle and fluid dynamic variations. The result gives us songs that combine folksy minimalism with refined wit and which resonate with a sense of moral and emotional gravitas.

Desert Hearts released their acclaimed debut album Lets Get Worse on Rough Trade (2002). More singles and glowing reviews followed. In 2006 the band returned to Chem19 studios in Glasgow with producer Andy Miller (Mogwai, Arab Strap and the Delgados) to record their second album, Hotsy Totsy Nagasaki which was released in October 2006 to rave reviews.

Kowalski described by Today FM DJ Tom Dunne as, "the greatest unsigned band in the history of the universe ever". The band is collectively 73 years old, 1 bass, 1 keyboard, 2 guitars, a drum kit and four members and are emerging as one of the most promising live acts to come out of Northern Ireland with Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol announcing recently "they are writing better songs at 18 than I am at 30!"
