CQAF Launches Creative Bursary Scheme
The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival, which has presented the best in local and international arts for over 20 years, has announced new Bursary awards for artists working in Music, Theatre, Visual Art and Literature.
Some of this work will be premiered at the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival in May 2024.
The project has been realised with funding support from Perspective Economics and Arts & Business.
The music bursary scheme is supported by Belfast City Council.

Theatre Bursary – £2,000 x2
Music Bursary – £16,000 – (16 individual awards)
Visual Arts Bursary – £2,000

Theatre Bursary
The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Theatre Bursary is designed to support the presentation of theatre production as part of the 24th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (2-12 May 2024) or Out to Lunch in January 2025. This can be a new or existing text and is open to established or emerging theatre makers.
We wish to invest £2,000 in your idea for an innovative new theatre production. Please forward a synopsis of no more than 500 words outlining your concept, ideal location and how you would use this money, and separately a budget breakdown. (up to 400 words). Also include short biographies of your proposed creative team.

Visual Arts Bursary
The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Visual Arts Bursary is designed to support the presentation of a visual arts exhibition or project at the 24th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (2-12 May 2024) or Out to Lunch in January 2025. This can be a new or existing exhibition or project.
We wish to invest £2,000 in your idea for an innovative visual arts production. Please forward a synopsis of no more than 500 words outlining your idea, ideal location, and how you would use this money, and a separate budget breakdown and short biographies of your proposed creative team.

Music Bursary
In association with Belfast City Council, the CQAF Music Bursary has been set up to support the composition and/ or recording of a new piece of music by a Ni-based artist. It is open to an established or emerging musician or band. Please note there are 16 individual awards at £1,000. Costs can include:
• Session musician fees
• Recording (studio hire, engineering, mixing, mastering)
• Content creation (video, audio, promotional photography, artwork, design, etc)
• Manufacture and distribution
• Merchandise (design and production)
• PR & Marketing
We wish to invest £1,000 into the composition and recording costs of your music. This should include an element of recording (eg. studio hire, engineering, mixing, mastering, session musician fees) and can also include campaign support / asset creation (video, photography, artwork design, manufacture and distribution costs, PR, marketing merchandise etc). Please forward an overview of your creative practice with an explanation as to why you need this investment in no more than 500 words accompanied by a short audio file or weblink with examples of previous work.
It is envisaged that the piece/recording will be premiered at the 24th Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (2-12 May 2024) or Out to Lunch in January 2025.

Writers Bursary
The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Writers Bursary has been established to help early career writers move toward the realisation of a publication or development of a piece of writing.
We wish to invest £2,000 in this project. Please provide an overview of your writing career to date, and an explanation of how you would use this money, accompanied by a short sample of your work.
