CQAF Creative Bursaries 2023

CQAF has presented the best in local and international art, music and performance over the last 23 years. We are delighted to initiate a scheme which allows artists, writers and performers to develop new work for our festival.

We have established four creative bursaries to support and encourage new work by visual artists, comedians, musicians and theatre practitioners based in Northern Ireland.

This project has funding support from Perspective Economics and the Arts & Business NI Investment Programme.

Theatre Bursary

The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Theatre Bursary is designed to support the presentation of theatre production as part of the 23rd Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (April 27 – May 7, 2023) or Out to Lunch in January 2024. This can be a new or existing text and is open to established or emerging theatre makers.

We wish to invest £2,000 in your idea for an innovative new theatre production. Please forward a synopsis of no more than 500 words outlining your concept, ideal location and how you would use this money, and separately a budget breakdown. (up to 400 words) Also include short biographies of your proposed creative team.

Visual Arts Bursary

The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Visual Arts Bursary is designed to support the presentation of a visual arts exhibition or project at the 23rd Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (April 27 – May 7, 2023) or Out to Lunch in January 2024. This can be a new or existing exhibition or project.

We wish to invest £2,000 in your idea for an innovative visual arts production. Please forward a synopsis of no more than 500 words outlining your idea, ideal location, and how you would use this money, and a separate budget breakdown and short biographies of your proposed creative team.

Music Bursary

The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Music Bursary has been set up to support the composition and/ or recording of a new piece of music by a Ni-based artist. It is open to an established or emerging musician or band.

We wish to invest £2,000 into the composition and recording costs of your music. Please forward an overview of your creative practice with an explanation as to why you need this investment in no more than 500 words accompanied by a short audio file or weblink with examples of previous work.

It is envisaged that the piece/recording will be premiered at the 23rd Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (April 27 – May 7, 2023)

Comedy Bursary

The Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Comedy Bursary has been established to help an early career writer/ performer move towards the realisation of a live comedy performance or devise a comedy show in collaboration with others.

We wish to invest £2,000 into this project. Please provide an overview of your writing career to date, and an explanation of how you would use this money, accompanied by a short sample of your work ( video, recordings or written submissions welcome).

It is envisaged that the Award Winner will be invited to present a new show at the 23rd Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival (April 27 – May 7, 2023).
