With an apprenticeship with traditional Scots groups Battlefield Band and Malinky, it seems no accident that since going solo Karine Polwart has been nominated three times for Best Original Song at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and, indeed, won the award for the second time in 2007 with her deceptively simple ode to lost innocence – Daisy.

Since her breakthrough success in 2005 with debut solo album Faultlines, her follow-up, Scribbled In Chalk, has reinforced her reputation for refreshingly honest vocals and literate song-writing sensibility.
