Craig Oldham – Political Posters
The Black Box (Green Room)
Thursday 9 January - Sunday 26 January
Exhibition opening from 6pm Thursday 9 January
Craig Oldham has been named as one of the most influential designers working in the UK and has written books on a range of topics including education, culture, and politics. 40 years on from the miners’ strike of 1984-85, Oldham re-published In Loving Memory of Work through Rough Trade Books to critical acclaim with director Ken Loach declaring of the book that ‘every University should place an order.’
This exhibition of posters designed by Oldham and his socially engaged design practice, Office of Craig, modestly explore the political projects and views across a range of subjects and moments – from Covid-29 to campaigning against the London Garden Bridge. The work provides testimony to the political role of designers and their importance in making and communicating messages, and whether that work is deemed commercial or personal it still has political implications.
Craig Oldham will give a talk – ‘The Tools of Protest’ – at Ulster University on 24th January. Tickets and more details available here.
