C21 Theatre Company return to the festival fold with the Northern Ireland Premiere of Sylvia Plath’s only play written for radio. Three Women traces three different experiences of pregnancy and childbirth: the first character has a normal birth and a healthy baby, the second has a miscarriage and the third is a student who gives her baby up for adoption.
Set in “a maternity ward and round about”, and written in verse, Three Women steers clear of the clinical details of birth, instead reflecting the women’s states of mind, and the realities of pregnancy. Three Women contend, in interwoven monologues, with aspects of motherhood and childlessness: birth, miscarriage and enforced adoption. "Both joyful and tragic, it is arguably one of her most beautiful pieces of writing." THE GUARDIAN "Three Women resonates soul- deep, regardless of one’s experiences or one’s sex."
