ROCK ART - EMERGENCE of a MODERN STONE AGE

Monday May 2 - May 28 | Waterfront Hall

C
ontemporary stone sculpting has been a well practiced and respected art form in Zimbabwe since the mid 1950s. Abstract and representational forms, usually sculpted by hand, encompass a diversity of universal themes. Over the last five decades many of these sculptors have gained international acclaim through galleries, museums and sculpture parks in Africa, Europe, America, Australia and Japan as well as through publications such as The Economist, Art Review and Times/Newsweek.

The Waterfront Hall will host an exhibition of selected stone art from Zimbabwean sculptors during the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival 2005.A unique opportunity to experience an art form often referred to as living stone or talking stone.

Exhibition launch Tuesday May 3 at 5.00pm
