The original Rasta poet Benjamin Zephaniah has delighted
audiences young and old since he began performing his
unique street poetry nearly 20 years ago,
appearing all over the world and picking up numerous
awards.
Anyway let the man speak for himself!
I try to write poems that are fun but they should also
have a serious message. I am very concerned about racism,
animal rights, pollution and I have always believed
that boys and girls should be treated equally. I hate
wars and I think it is not right that adults should
tell children not to deal with disputes by fighting
then settle disputes by fighting in wars. I think armies
should be banned.
I love jogging, Kung Fu, football, collecting old banknotes
and exploring woods and forests. Most of my best friends
are animals and I am passionate abou being vegan. I
have written 7 plays, 7 books for adults and 4 books
for children which are: Talking Turkeys, Funky Chickens,
Face, Refugee Boy and Wicked World.
I live in the East End of London right next door
to West Ham Football ground but I still support the
best team in the world - Aston Villa!
Suitable for children aged 8 - 11
