Just like many writers before him, Brian Moore left the city of his birth to forge a career as a writer in exile. This did not mean that he would forget his native city of Belfast - on the contrary it was to provide the fodder for many of his books , many now considered to be works of excellance : Judith Hearne, Lupercal, The Emperor of Ice-cream.
In these works the closed life of the city is depicted warts and all, the refined carousel of social mores in the tea rooms and dance halls, shebeens and confession boxes. The lifeblood of Belfast is brought pulsating to life.
Belfast Theatre Company presents a dramatised reading of the life and work of Brian Moore featuring many of his famous works with Paddy Scully who recreating the early life and times of one of Belfast’s world renowned writers. |
