Carol Reed’s classic film noir, filmed on location in post-war Vienna, is echoed in the title of Glenn Patterson’s latest novel, set in present-day Hiroshima and featuring a Northern Irish novelist at a conference entitled Writing Out of Conflict. (Because there is always, somewhere, a conference entitled ‘Writing Out of Conflict’.)

Following on from the lunchtime discussion with Malachi O’Doherty, Glenn Patterson will read from The Third Party – or possibly Graham Greene’s novella The Third Man – before a screening of Reed’s film.

Screening will be followed by a club of ambient Cold War sounds by The Louder than Bombs DJ collective.
