To mark Northern Ireland’s Year of Food and Drink, the Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival has cooked up something a little special.
Vegstock is Ireland’s first meat-free, one-day festival of high quality food, drink and music! Enjoy a range of amazing locally-sourced products, including cheeses, yoghurts, breads, oils, hot sauces, ice creams, beers and gin.
We’ve also (ahem) beefed up proceedings with a full line-up of top live music from the festival stage. We’re delighted to welcome the following bands and artists, with approximate stage times.

Cup O’ Joe (1.00pm – 1.45pm)
Cup O’ Joe is a family band comprising Reuben Agnew on guitar and mandolin, Tabitha Agnew on banjo and fiddle and Benjamin Agnew on upright bass with all three sharing vocal duties. We’ve been big fans since they played our Out to Lunch festival in January.
The band plays a mix of Bluegrass and Gypsy Jazz and their debut album ‘Rough Terrain’ is an eclectic mix of familiar songs such as ‘Darlin’ Corey’ and ‘Wild Bill Jones’ to ‘Johnny Has Gone For A Soldier’. The perfect start to a day of wonderful, mostly local music.
Birds of Chicago (2.00pm – 2.30pm)
Ahead of their headline CQAF show, we’re delighted to welcome a short set by Birds of Chicago. JT Nero is a product of the Windy City. His wife Allison Russell is a native of Montreal. His rough-as-a-cob soulful snarl is perfectly complemented by her soaring, like-butter vocals.
In 2012, JT and Allison forged their music and their lives together forming the band Birds of Chicago, that strives to take a thoughtful and poetic look at love and life. They hit the road with their baby daughter Ida and a fine band and never looked back. Much to the critics delight, and ours.
Shadows and Light (2.45pm – 3.45pm)
Joni Mitchell’s career has spanned 5 decades and has yielded both era-defining classics and jazz-rich exploration.With Shadows and Light, Joni Mitchell’s songs are interpreted by three lovers of her music, Maura Vambeck (vocals and guitar), Dave Mulligan (guitars) and Paul Enright (keyboard).
The band play songs from the huge Joni repertoire, some of the more well-known songs like ‘Chelsea Morning’, ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, ‘Both Sides Now’ along with some of the lesser known numbers like ‘Coyote’ and ‘Help Me’.
Cash Returns (4.00pm – 5.00pm)
Cash Returns’ has been hailed the greatest and most exciting Johnny Cash show in the UK. With JP Mac as Johnny Cash, who’s baritone voice and tone is scarily uncanny to the Man in Black’s himself. JP is accompanied by his sister Caroline who takes on the role as June Carter with her larger than life onstage presence and fantastic voice. The combination of the two and their amazing band are wowing audiences all over.
Hear all the classics, ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, ‘Get Rhythm’, ‘ Walk the Line’, ‘Hurt’ and of course the duo hit ‘Jackson’ which the pair have just recorded and is currently getting airplay throughout Ireland.
Dan Eggs (5.15pm – 5.30pm)
Who or what the hell is Dan Eggs? Madman, visionary genius or frontline reporter from the surreality that pervades everybody’s lives? Who knows?
We’re delighted to welcome Dan back to the Festival fold after a couple of year’s hiatus contemplating life from his retreat outside Ballymoney.
The Wood Burning Savages (5.45pm – 6.30pm)
The Wood Burning Savages are a rip-roaring four piece with a taste for vitriol and a reputation for discord.They’ve been lauded for their frenetic live show and twisted brand of pulsating riffs. Their latest offering ‘We Love You’ is an impassioned cocktail of unrelenting drums and infectious guitars.
Their breezy intensity has been compared to the likes of The Clash, Death From Above 1979 and Queens Of The Stone Age.
Having played the BBC Introducing Tent at Glastonbury, the band have went on to be selected to play BBC Radio Ulster’s 40th Anniversary Special from their hometown in Derry and Whelan’s Ones To Watch 2016.
Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas (7.00pm – 8.00pm)
They’re the band that taps into more genres than you can shake a stick at – folk, rock, country, punk, pop and blues – but whatever their ‘label’ Paddy Nash and the Happy Enchiladas are a band that encapsulates ‘infectious’.
Their music is the kind that gets your toe tapping and your mind thinking, all in the space of two minutes, and recent album ‘Laughter and Love’ album has cemented their reputation as one of the finest bands in the country.
Guest DJ during bands – Terri Hooley
Fifty years and a bit of heart surgery on and Terri Hooley shows no signs of slowing down. Since the release of Good Vibrations his fame has grown, with invitations to all kinds of festivals across the globe. The French loved the film so much he received baskets of cheese and wine. He drew a big crowd in Moscow and his regular nights in Voodoo often descend into mayhem.
In the words of the man himself – expect “a wee bit of everything, from Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin onwards. Nothing too modern. A bit of 60s soul, punk, reggae and ska – my favourites, maybe some tracks by The Shangri-Las.”
