My Polish Roots
Saturday January 13
The Black Box,1.00pm (55 mins)

Video, animation and beetroot soup combine in this one-woman, biographical Edinburgh festival hit.
While cooking ‘barszcz’ (beetroot soup) on stage, Karola delves into her Polish roots and touches on her working class upbringing in Yorkshire. How has having Post-War Polish parents and a childhood in the North of England nurtured a comic obsession with class?
Karola uses video, photos and animations to tell stories of survival. In showing how her mother was one of 1.7 million Poles deported to Siberia under Stalin, she touches on one of World War 2’s forgotten narratives.
“Very funny, full of Polish spirit.” Federation of Poles in Great Britain
“Compelling and inspired.” Scotland on Sunday
